Your Name Movie Synopsis:
The movie is about Mitsuha, a high school girl, who lives in Itomori, a small town in the Japanese mountainous region of Hida. She is tired of her life in the countryside and wished she was a handsome boy who lives in Tokyo. She makes kuchikamizake sake with the help of her grandmother and her sister. Taki is a city boy who lives in Tokyo. He works part-time at an Italian Restaurant and dreams of becoming an architect or an artist when he grows up.

One day, Mitsuha and Taki finds themselves switching their bodies. They thought that it was just a dream, as their memory of the swapping fades away easily until their family and friends tell them that they were acting strangely. Once they realize that they have switched their bodies, they try to find a way to communicate to each other. They leave notes for each other using Mitsuha’s notebook and Taki’s phone. They also help each other with their personal lives with Mitsuha helping Taki in developing a bonding with his coworker Miki and Taki helps Mitsuha become popular in school. Mitsuha tells Taki about comet which was expected to pass Earth on the day of her town’s festival.

Taki wakes up one morning to discover that he had come back to his own body. He goes on a date with Miki which turned out to be quite futile. He decides to contact Mitsuha but found out that the body switching had ended as he was unable to contact her. As the days go by, his memory of her starts to fade away. With the little memory he had of Mitsuha, he decided to sketch the town where she lives. A restaurant owner recognizes the town but tells Taki that the town was completely shut down by a fragment of the comet three years ago. He finds that Mitsuha’s name was there in the list of fatalities from the comet strike.

He decides to go Mitsuha’s family shrine and there he finds out that Mitsuha and he were on a different timeline as the comet strike was three years ago. He finds the kuchikamizake sake that he had kept in Mitsuha’s family shrine when he visited them while he was in Mitsuha’s body, and drinks it in order to regain his connection with Mitsuha. He regains Mitsuha’s memory and finds out that Mitsuha’s father left his family when his wife died and that Mitsuha had fallen in love with him and had come to Tokyo to meet him. She had given her name and a ribbon to his younger self.

On the morning of the town festival, Taki wakes up in Mitauha’s body and tells Mitsuha’s grandmother about him and his identity. Mitsuha’s grandmother tells him that body switching is a part of their family history and is caused by the kuchikamizake. He decides to get the help of Mitsuha’s friends Teshi and Saya in helping him evacuate the town before the comet strikes. While doing this, he realizes that Misuha might have woken up in his body at the shrine.
